Wise SMS Verification Numbers

Wise texts a code for account signup and again when you log in from a device it doesn't recognize — standard practice for a service that moves money across borders. If you'd rather keep that verification off your personal number, rent one just for it. Ours start at $0.05 and the code usually lands within a few seconds.

Why people do this instead of using their own number

Keeping your real number off a financial account.Once a number is attached to a Wise account it becomes part of the login and recovery chain going forward. A number you'll only use once keeps that separate from the line you actually use day to day.

A secondary or testing account.Same signup and login OTP flow, just kept apart from a personal account — that's the extent of what this covers.

What this doesn't cover, to be clear.Actually sending money through Wise requires their own identity verification — ID documents, proof of address — entirely separate from the phone step and entirely on Wise's side. A rented number gets an account through signup, nothing past that.

How to verify Wise in 5 steps

1
Register
Free, takes about 30 seconds. No ID, no personal phone number.
2
Add funds
Crypto only for now (BTC, USDT, and a few others) — $5 minimum. Same as everywhere else on the site right now.
3
Grab a Wise number
Search "Wise" in the services list, hit Get Number.
4
Enter it during signup or login
Wherever Wise is asking for a phone number, that's where it goes.
5
Wait a few seconds
The code lands in your dashboard on its own, no refreshing needed. Type it in and that number's done its job.

Questions people actually ask

Does a rented number actually work for a Wise account?
Yes — Wise just needs to send an SMS to the number you give it during signup or an unfamiliar-device login. Ours receive that the same way any real line would.
Will Wise definitely accept the number, though?
That we can't promise. Wise runs its own risk checks on incoming numbers, and every so often one gets rejected before anything's sent — that's on their end, not ours. What we control is delivery: no code, no charge, cancel the activation and you're refunded.
How fast does the code arrive?
Usually within a few seconds. Occasionally slower if Wise's own systems are lagging, but that's rare.
Can I just add $1 to test one number?
Not right now — $5 is the floor, and it's crypto only, no card payments yet. Numbers themselves are still $0.05, so $5 covers plenty of tries.
Does this let me skip Wise's identity verification and start sending money?
No, and it's worth being clear about that. This covers the phone-verification step in account signup — nothing more. Actually moving money through Wise requires their own separate identity check (ID documents, proof of address), which happens entirely on Wise's side and has nothing to do with a phone number.
Can I automate this instead of clicking through the dashboard?
There's an API if you're verifying more than a couple of accounts — same request/response shape SMS-Activate used to run, so old integration code mostly just works.
