Steam SMS Verification Numbers

Steam doesn't just suggest a phone number — trading items with other players and using the Community Market are restricted until Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator is set up, and that requires a verified number on the account. If you'd rather not hand over your personal one, or you're setting up a second account apart from your main library, rent a number for the one verification. Ours start at $0.05 and the code usually shows up within a few seconds.

Why people do this instead of using their own number

Trading and the Market are locked without it.Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator needs a verified phone number tied to the account, and until it's set up, trading items with other players and using the Community Market are restricted. That's Valve's own policy, not something we're spinning up to sell you a number.

A second account, kept separate.Reviewing keys, testing a game before it goes anywhere near your main library, or just running an account you don't want linked to your everyday profile — Steam expects its own number per account, same as most platforms, and a rented one handles that without touching your real line.

Keeping your personal number off Steam entirely.Once a number's attached to an account it's part of that account's identity going forward — recovery, support tickets, all of it. A number you'll only ever use once gets you through the verification and nothing else.

How to verify Steam in 5 steps

1
Register
Free, takes about 30 seconds. No ID, no personal phone number.
2
Add funds
Crypto only for now (BTC, USDT, and a few others) — $5 minimum. We know that's annoying if you just want to try one number for $0.05, but that's where it sits right now.
3
Grab a Steam number
Type "Steam" into the services list, hit Get Number.
4
Enter it in Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator setup
Wherever Steam's asking for a phone number during that flow, that's where it goes.
5
Wait a few seconds
The code lands in your dashboard on its own, no refreshing needed. Type it into Steam and that number's done its job.

Questions people actually ask

Does a virtual number actually work for Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator?
Yes — Steam just needs to send an SMS to whatever number you give it during setup. Ours receive that the same way a personal SIM would.
Will Steam definitely accept the number, though?
That we can't promise. Steam runs its own checks on incoming numbers, and every so often one gets flagged before it ever sends anything — that's on their side, not ours. What we do control is delivery: if the code doesn't arrive, cancel the activation and you're refunded, no argument.
How long does the SMS take?
Normally a handful of seconds. Occasionally slower if Steam's own systems are backed up, but that's rare.
I only want to top up $1 to test it — can I?
Not right now — $5 is the floor, and it's crypto only (no card payments yet). Numbers themselves are still $0.05 and up, so $5 covers a lot of tries.
Does this permanently unlock trading and the Market, or just get me through setup?
Just the phone-verification part of enabling Mobile Authenticator. After that, Valve's own trade holds and cooldowns for new devices or a freshly added authenticator still apply the same as they would for anyone — that timing is on Steam's end, and a rented number doesn't change it.
Can I use this for a second Steam account, separate from my main one?
That's basically the other reason people land on this page. Steam wants its own number per account, and most people only have one phone — a rented number covers the second (or third) account without touching your real line.
Can I automate this instead of clicking through the dashboard?
There's an API if you're doing this for more than a couple of accounts — same request/response shape as SMS-Activate used to run, so if you've got old integration code lying around it mostly just works.
